Myers's definition of hallucinations

Myers's definition of hallucinations
In his posthumously published work of 1903, the British classical scholar, writer, poet, and paranormal researcher Frederic Myers (1843-1901) defined hallucinations as follows: "A hallucination, one may say boldly, is in fact a hyperaesthe-sia; and generally a central hyperaesthesia. That is to say, the hallucination is in some cases due indirectly to peripheral stimulation; but often also it is the result of a stimulus to 'mind's-eye vision,' which sweeps the idea onwards into visual form, regardless ofordinary checks."
