- Moreau de Tour's definition of hallucinations
In an essay by the French alienist Jacques-Joseph Moreau de Tours (1804-1884), published posthumously in 1899, hallucinations are defined as follows: "The hallucination, like all other delirious phenomena, belongs to the dream-life; it is the sensation ofthe dream state, reproduced during the waking state."
